To improve eating habits of Pre-K and K-12 age children in West Central Minnesota through education programs, experiences and school foodservice that connects farming and nutritious and healthy foods.

Supported and developed curriculum and learning including cooking, farm and garden field trips

  • Supported WCROC Children’s Garden and Pizza Garden Outreach educational programs
  • Created partnerships with local schools, integrating local foods into school cafeterias, education and tastings in regional public schools including: Willmar, Montevideo, Morris and Lac qui Parle
  • Supported School Nutrition and Wellness Committees throughout the region and assisted them in incorporating Farm to School goals and activities
  • Partnered with MISA in grant applications to increase access to Farm to School programming


  • Willmar School district has increased their Farm To School activities and local farm products from the initial pilot of 3 local food tastings at one school the first year to 9 monthly cafeteria local food features serving 4 district schools and providing cafeteria nutrition and local food education in 4 schools serving 2000 students each month.
  • On line Farm to School Took Kit will be available in Fall 2008 with trainings planned with the MN School Nutrition Association, based on the Willmar School District pilot featuring 12 foods; apples, tomatoes, bison, wild rice, cabbage, potatoes, squash, wheat flour and wheatberries, oatmeal, cornmeal, honey, bison.
  • Part-time UM Extension position to expand the Farm To School program throughout the state, and co-leading the MN Farm to School Network of National Farm to School Program.
  • Farm to School Presentations at: Sustainable Farming Association, MN Dietetic Association, MN School Nutrition Association Conference 8-08, UM Nutrition Education Program Fall Conference 9-08.
  • Media Farm to School Coverage from KSAX TV out of Alexandria, Minnesota News Network Radio, Local and Twin Cities Newspaper coverage about Farm to School
