Week 9 Definition: Leadership is the process of finding strengths and abilities within a group of people to successfully complete a common task. The leader of a successful group is able to facilitate the group to collaborate creatively and efficiently in a playful manner, while still maintaining a vision for the group to work towards. The leader should also lead by example by treating each person with the respect and dignity that they deserve, no matter their differences in demographics.

The leader should lead by example by treating each person with the respect and dignity that they deserve, no matter their differences in demographics.

This week's definition is basically the same, but I added a small element of collectively collaborating. As Kezar writes, women tend to view leadership as more collective than individual. I completely agree with this statement, which is why I added it to my definition. If there isn't a group to lead, there would be no leaders. Therefore, leadership cannot be individualistic, rather it is for the group.

I like the addition that I made to my definition last week. After reading the piece of racism this week, I realized how important it is to be respectful of other people's differences. If a leader does not treat others with respect, their followers will think that it is okay and begin acting in the same ways.

Week 7 Definition: Leadership is about finding strengths and developing them within yourself and those around you, and then understanding what each contributor has to offer. Successful leaders also have the technical skills required for the task and have a feedback process for their members. These leaders are also able to step back and see the bigger picture, while still working towards completing their goals in a playful, yet professional manner that fosters collaboration and creativity.

I like this definition because it doesn't really focus on any one aspect of leadership, but rather is an overview of what I feel that leadership should be. This is what a definition should look like anyways. It doesn't focus on any readings in particular. Instead I took bits and pieces from each one and let these parts influence my definition rather than create it.

This definition is the most complex one that I have come up with so far. The readings this week really dug deep into what being a leader takes. I would have added more about what Goleman says about our stress levels being balanced, but I didn't have any room. I feel that this definition is a combination of bits and pieces of most of the readings, even if it is just a basic idea.

I still like the first part of my definition. I think that finding strengths is a very important part of being able to lead people. If you don't know what you are good at, you won't be able to lead people effectively. After reading the article about "getting to the balcony," I realized how important it is for leaders to see the bigger picture. If they don't see all of the issues, they won't be effective in their leading.

This week's definition is a combination of all of the readings that we have read so far in the course. I used all the different aspects of leaders that have been brought up, because I feel that leadership has so many different meanings and uses. I wanted to be sure that my definition is all-encompassing to cover all the different uses.

I really liked the definition that I had last week. The Roth readings have a good portrayal of what makes a leader. However, they don't take into account the playful, fun attitude that make leaders well-liked. I like that this was a factor in Goleman and Boyatzis's idea of a leader.

Week 3 Definition: Leadership is about finding your strengths and then utilizing them to execute, influence, relate, or strategize with others. Successful leaders are able to develop these strengths not only in themselves, but also in those around them.

In this definition, I included the four categories of leadership. I think they are an important aspect of the types of leaders and how they go about their leading. As a leader, knowing what category best suits you can be very beneficial in your delivery of leadership. Rath and Conchie really preach this in their book, Strengths-Based Leadership, when they give examples of four leaders with each of the dominant leadership styles.

Leadership can be viewed very differently by everyone. To me, leadership is motivating others to work together for a common cause. This involves inspiration and action, which I believe are at the core of successful leaders.
