The site A Million Little Pictures is hosting a national disposable camera exhibition. Here's how they describe it:
"We want to come to your city.
But you have to prove yourself first. We're sending out disposable cameras across the United States. People take pictures based on the theme of "adventures" and send them back to us. If your city (or the closest major city) gets the most participants, were throwing the show there!"
Try it! If all of you do it, we can get them to come to Duluth!
Here's a road show of painters who paint live in front of an audience, with DJ's and a party atmosphere: Ignite What's Next.
GET LOST is a collective portrait of downtown New York. Twenty-one international artists were invited to create a personal view of the city and draw a map of downtown New York, uncovering a territory that is both real and imaginary.
We are lucky! There will be an important show of the work of the incredibleFrida Kahlo at the Walker from October 27th, 2007 through January 20th, 2008 at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Frida was a powerful Mexican artist working around the '30s of the 20th century. Her work is dreamlike, personal, strange, smart and intense.
UMD Graphic Design Grad student Phil! (always spelled with the exclamation point) is part of a one-night show in the Twin Cities on September 8th called Mush Mush Masculinity. It's sponsored by a group called Ephemeral Space that puts on one-day art shows in various places. Probably a fun group of people.
If you're going to Chicago before October 14th, 2007 --- don't miss the chance to see this incredible sculpture, Ghiberti's "Gates of Paradise" a pair of golden doors. No kidding. Gold.
Michelangelo himself said this work was "truly worthy to be the gates of paradise."
