Book Club: February 2009 through June

Anne's right on top of things; here's her report:

Last night:
For travel books we talked about Eat, Pray, Love (Sarah), Looking for Lovedu (Anne), 1000 Places to See Before You Die (Kirsten) and Crack in the Edge of the World (Susan). Kirsten had a great approach to the 1000 Places book – opening it at random, for instance, to find something new and/or looking up entries for a place you’re thinking of going so you can add must-sees to your itinerary.

For book picks we have:

March 18 – at Anne’s – Agent Zigzag: A True Story of Nazi Espionage, Love, and Betrayal by Ben Macintyre

April 15 – ***note change***: now at Anne’s - The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade by Ann Fessler

***see the related exhibit***
and http://thegirlswhowentaway.com/

May 20 – at Kirsten’s - The Duchess or Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman (Kirsten – do you know if there’s a difference? I found both on Amazon this morning)
--for edition information see the extended entry....- SG

June 17 – at Sarah’s – ***we need to decide which of these to do***:
Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri (due out in paperback April 7, 2009)
--OR --
an Obama theme month - read about any or all of the Obama family
for example, see his hers

And … ***save this for next year when it comes out in paperback*** - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows (not yet in paperback) at Roberta’s

Other suggestions:
Crack in the Edge of the World by Simon Winchester (Susan)
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac Mccarthy (Sarah)
Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding (Sarah)
Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (Anne)
Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier (Anne)
Looking for Lovedu by Ann Jones (Anne’s travel book – Sarah wants to read it)
