Tragedy over the river

My heart and best wishes go out to people in my neighborhood who might be hurting or scared tonight. As a member of the local community, who literally rides and jogs under the I35 bridge on a daily basis (right beneath the area where that school bus was located), I am tremendously saddened by this tragedy, and will comment more on it when the dust has settled.

I saw the wreckage from the nearby pedestrian bridge. Cars strewn in the water. Burning diesel. Horrifying.

In particular, I want to offer my profound respect and admiration for the woman I saw on WCCO who was diving and performing water rescue duties. My hope is that she is not adversely affected about the event. When I was a lifeguard for the Boy Scouts we had a scare once and I thought that we'd lost a swimmer under the surface of a murky lake. I remember very clearly diving and searching for that boy. It turns out that he had left the swimming area without checking out. It was a frightening event, but I cannot imagine how stressful this must have been for that water rescue team. I was immediately proud of those technical rescue teams. Those folks are amazing.
