Within the conversation between Kaprow and Smithson was I was happy to discover the discussion surrounding a quote I have heard many times. Kaprow-"'Life' in the museum is like making love in a cemetery". I wonder the context of this conversation. It's interesting to hear them both reject and acknowledge the power of the museum or gallery.
I was taken bit the bit at the end of the Smithson-Kaprow text which says that you can either do nothing but talk, or do something constantly but completely apart from an institutional context. Anything else will get drawn into the context of the institution which will euthanise its meaning. Seems a bit depressing.
