Postman

So far I have enjoyed reading Postman’s opinions on technology. He brings up many interesting points that force me to think about my view on the matter. Is technology taking over our lives? America seems consumed with being and staying at the top for everything. If we make one mistake causing us to fall behind, another country will jump at the opportunity to take over our spot. The pressure is on for us to be nothing but the best, which is hard. Technology drives the competition between America and other countries. Having more advance technology is a sign of power and wealth. Will improving technology have an end or will it eventually drive us crazy?

I agree that postman encourages his readers to think deeply about how technological advancements impact the lives within and between different societies. I think it's True that America does stay on top of things. IN regards to this Idea from what I slightly picked up as an underlying idea in postman's writing is that technology seems to be intrusive to our culture if we don't know how to use it or control it. In other words, leadership is important when it comes to the use of technology. It takes efficient leadership ability to use technology in order to gain this wealth and power that you and postman mention. In my opinion, improving technology will never have an end because there is this underlying warrant for people to possess power and wealth. So if technology is the provider of wealth and power then people in America and all over the world will be trying to take leadership by staying on top of everything. It's like Postman said there will always be winners and losers when it comes to technology. The winners are those who apparently express a stronger leadership on the subject.

I agree that technology will never have an end. It is sad and joyful to see how my son will grow up. He won't get to experience the childhood I ever had. I expect that he will miss out on roaming the desert(I grew up in AZ), sheep herding, living with limited supplies, playing with the fun things in the desert(yes it was fun in the desert), picking nuts, butchering sheep, and just enjoying nature for the most part. I have worked in childcare and have seen how kids are aware of technology and want to know how to use it. They want computers, ipods, laptops, cell phones, even cars. My son is funny about that. I have a minivan, typical mom, right? My son saw this old, ugly columbia blue mini van of early 1990's, I think. It could have been 80's but, he wanted it because it was like Mommy and it was his favorite color. I laughed and said, well, you have to go to school first. Anyway, I encourage technology to my son. In fact one of his favorite shows is how things work, not my favorite. But it's facinating for him and actually pulls me in. He has many books about how things work, about the earth, about the body, and their functions. But, it is really amazing that he can go though all that and be more informed than I was. So, I encourage technolgy to him and make sure he gets time to use his creative side which he uses to make his own models of techonolgy. He has made binoculars, telescopes, cell phones, computers, guns with scopes, and the list goes on. My nephew even made his own laboratory. But, I see it as good that children are able to experience technology so they can prepare(while playing) for their future dreams.

It'll drive us crazy. I know what you mean by competing with other countries. We feel as if we lose this technology race then we'll no longer be the World superpower thereby losing our identity. People can keep taking it one step further and say we may very well lose our nation.

The dichotomy of this subject can be debated for days.
All posts have basically touched on some of the key points and how TECHNOLOGY affects and effect US (the universe and its current inhabitants) We can never be sure HOW it will effect the FUTURE generation, say 30-50 years from now.
