Blog Prompt #4 - Free From Constraints

Ever since a young girl traveling to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with my family on a ski vacation I have wanted to return to permanently reside. My passion for skiing and the connection with the natural world around when enjoying this sport is what I love more than anything in the world. I came to the conclusion that moving myself out to the Rocky Mountains, amidst the looming mountains and natural vegetation, is where I could best enjoy myself and my career in architecture.

I really enjoy working with children, teaching them, and acting as a positive role model. I have often considered going into the field of education. One of my other main interests includes working with the environment. I love nature, being in it, working with it – everything about it. These aspects I would incorporate into my work. Because of course, life would be more meaningful and so much more rewarding if we all worked with what we are so passionate about.

Some ways that I could incorporate my interests into my work would possibly include designing for children specifically. Even using them as my consultants. I would teach them and they would teach me at the same time. They could tell me what they like, what they want. This could perhaps be new customization of (children’s) architecture.

Sustainable practices of architecture and ways of living also would be incorporated into my work. This world needs to be more conscientious in using its resources. We don’t want to ruin this world for generations to come. I would educate and design sustainable aspects into architecture. Relating back to passion of working with children, I would start educating them at a young age making smart choices that will help make this world a happy, healthier place to live.

Every vision put into action has to start somewhere. To get a jumpstart on the visions above and leaving the architecture school program behind, I would move to the Rocky Mountains of the West. From there, I believe I would either volunteer or find a job working at a school and also a national park or DNR job working with the environment and natural resources. Gaining experience that way, I would broaden my knowledge and view of the world. From there, my plans would be to start my own practice of educating, designing, and positively influencing those who influence me the most to make this world a better place.
