A Star Tribune column describes a "growing, bipartisan chorus (in the MN state legislature) advocating a $1 increase in the Minnesota tax on a pack of smokes."
The column claims that in the 90s, Michigan raised tobacco taxes by 50 cents to $1.25 per pack. "Last year, Michigan raised the tax to $2 because the earlier increase lowered demand and raised more money for the state to offset smoking-related public health costs," the column reports.
