Pfizer drug combo plan criticized

The New York Times reports on Pfizer's plans to sell its new heart drug, torcetrapib, only in combination with the company's Lipitor.

Torcetrapib is not yet approved by the FDA.

The Times quotes critics who say the company should offer the drug as a stand-alone pill. They say other drugs, besides Lipitor, may work better for some patients and for others tocetrapib may work best by itself.

One cardiologist is quoted: "That's an unfortunate decision on Pfizer's part. It's not going to sit well with people. But, as you know, they're going to be just crying all the way to the bank."
