New stadium or health care?

The Minnesota state legislature may have an interesting debate over a proposed new baseball stadium for the Minnesota Twins. (See Minnesota Public Radio story.)

Although the public money in the proposal would come from Hennepin county in the form of a sales-tax increase, some are questioning why such an effort couldn't be used to reduce the cuts to 30,000 people in MinnesotaCare, a state-subsidized health insurance program for the working poor. (See another MPR story.)

What are the values of a state? Unfortunately, since the current stadium proposal would not include a citizen referendum, the only voices heard on this may those of rich vested baseball interests and legislators.
