MSI will host a Research Exhibition on Monday, April 25, 2011. MSI researchers will present posters of their work using MSI resources. Prizes will be awarded to the finalists and the Grand Prize winner.

Posters will be judged in one of the following categories:
High-performance computing research
Hard sciences
Biological/medical sciences

The Exhibition will begin at 1 p.m. Poster presenters will be at their posters to discuss their work and answer questions during 1:30-2:30. The prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon.

In October 2006, Netflix kicked off a $1M competition by releasing 100 million movie ratings as a training set to be used to build a better recommendation system for their on-line movie rental business. This landmark data set generated intense interest from the statistics and machine learning communities, and attracted entries from over 3000 teams from academia and industry. In this talk, I will review our team's experience analyzing this data and document our journey towards winning a share of the million dollar prize.

Kick off CSE Week by playing in the Science Quiz Bowl! Teams of CSE students can put their acumen to the test and compete for prizes in this intramural tournament covering all kinds of science. The Science Quiz bowl takes place on April 10 from 1-8 pm in Walter Library, but please come at 12:30pm so that there is enough time for registration and team photos.
