<p>The Bipartisan Policy Center's National Transportation Policy Project (NTPP) has begun a dialogue across the country regarding recommendations contained in its report Performance Driven: A New Vision for U.S. Transportation Policy. The next public forum will be held at the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs in conjunction with the Martin Olav Sabo Lecture Series. Former Congressman Sabo, NTPP co-chair, will speak at the event.</p>

         <title>E3  2009:  Midwest&apos;s Premier Energy, Economic and Environmental Conference 11/17</title>

<p>How do we provide sustainable fuel, food, fiber and freshwater to a global population of 9 billion people in our lifetime? That's one of more than 15 urgent questions we'll explore during E3 2009.</p>

<p>NREL's Larry Kazmerski, a pioneer in the field of solar photovoltaics, will offer the keynote presentation for this year's conference. Other highlights include a super panel discussion with national experts, track sessions focused on the big questions of the 21st century, and a series of Green on the Ground workshops.</p>

<p>Hosted by the University of Minnesota's Initiative for Renewable Energy and the Environment.</p>

         <title>Peer Research Consultants Now Available</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Peer Research Consultant (PRC) program is now available to give students peer help on their research questions. PRCs can help students narrow a topic, find articles and books, select academic sources, and more. Students looking for additional help or feeling overwhelmed by their research papers will be good candidates for the program. The PRCs will also refer students to subject librarians if needed.</p>

<p>For the fall 2009 pilot phase, the program will concentrate on supporting First Year Writing and SEAM (Student Excellence in Academics and Multiculturalism).</p>

         <title>Minnesota Supercomputing Institute Open House 11/4</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>November 4, 11:30 am - 4 pm<br />
Rooms 402 and 575 Walter</p>

<p>The Supercomputing Institute will host an Open House on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Attendees will be able to tour MSI facilities, including the machine room, the Scientific Development and Visualization Lab, and the LCSE-MSI Visualization Lab. They can also see software demonstrations and displays about research being performed using MSI. We will also have food, goody bags, and door prizes.</p>

         <title>Better Architectures and New Security Applications for Coarse Network Monitoring 10/19</title>

<p>In this talk we will describe an approach we have developed to improve the fidelity of these traffic summaries, by coordinating the monitoring performed by the network's routers so as to achieve network-wide monitoring goals while respecting each router's processing constraints.</p>
