        <![CDATA[<p>The Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania is currently soliciting applications for the Internet Policy Observatory Post Doctoral Fellowship or Scholar in Residence at the Center for Global Communication Studies. The Post Doctoral Fellow will help develop and manage existing research programs surrounding the Internet Policy Observatory, and develop his/her own independent related research agenda in the area of global internet policy</p>]]>
        <![CDATA[<p>Annenberg's Center for Global Communication Studies (CGCS) is a leader in international education and training in comparative media law and policy. The Center's research and policy work addresses issues of media regulation, media and democracy, measuring and evaluation of media development programs, public service broadcasting, and the media's role in conflict and post-conflict environments.</p>

<p>The Internet Policy Observatory is a multi-component project with a collaborative network and the goal of assessing incipient Internet policy and governance shifts in key national fora where restrictive approaches are being considered.<br />
The project will examine trends and efforts where national decisions have significance for the formation of global Internet policy. In addition to sponsoring research and collaborations with key global research and academic organizations, the Internet Policy Observatory will undertake its own research initiatives to establish data on the social and political context of online communications within targeted countries. Some topics the Internet Policy Observatory will engage in include:</p>

<ul>
	<li> The evolution of mechanisms and processes that affect domestic Internet policy;</li>
	<li> The legal, political, economic, and social factors (domestic and international) that influence the implementation or non-implementation of such policies;</li>
	<li> The relationship between national efforts and international policy formations;</li>
	<li> The role of civil society in domestic Internet policy processes and control; and</li>
	<li> The role of public opinion as a mode of determining a "demand side" for useful Internet policy developments.</li>
</ul>

<p>Applicants should hold postgraduate qualifications at PhD level or equivalent in a field related to internet policy studies, law or policy, communication,  media/cultural studies.  Applicants should possess a track record of publishing in high quality international journals or other appropriate refereed publications, as well as teaching experience.  Experience in research proposal development and implementation of research projects involving both quantitative and qualitative methodologies is an required.  This one-year position comes with a stipend of $40,000 to $50,000 (depending on years of prior experience), health insurance, $2,000 in travel and research support, office space with computer and telephone, and full access to the Penn library system. </p>

        <![CDATA[<p>The Youth Activism Project, directed by Dr. Jennifer Earl<http://jearl.faculty.arizona.edu/>, is part of the MacArthur Network on Youth and Participatory Politics<http://ypp.dmlcentral.net/>. It is focused on youth engagement in protest, particularly online protest and flash activism.</p>

<p>The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for working with the PI to design and implement research studies related to overall project themes, including quantitative content coding of protest websites and analysis of this coding as well as interviews and focus groups with youth about online protest. Strong candidates will have research experience in both quantitative and qualitative methods, notable experience working in Stata or R, and be productive working in teams and independently. All candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by the commencement of the fellowship and would preferably have received their Ph.D. within the past three years.</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>The CLA Graduate Research Partnership Program (GRPP) is a graduate student fellowship program that supports research partnerships between faculty and students enrolled in graduate programs housed within CLA. </p>]]>
        <![CDATA[<p>The program provides a summer research stipend of $4,000 to graduate students to support their professional, scholarly and creative development while collaborating with a faculty project adviser on scholarly research and creative activity.</p>

<p>The application and review process is conducted within each graduate program. SJMC can give two awards this year and one may be used to support dissertation research. Applications will be reviewed by the Graduate Affairs Committee members.</p>

<p>The competition is open to graduate students in Mass Communication. Students are ineligible if they have incompletes in official program coursework from a prior term on their transcript. Previous recipients of this award are also not eligible to apply a second time. As a condition of the award, CLA GRPP Fellows may not hold summer appointments in excess of .25 FTE. Students receiving other University of Minnesota fellowships, including department fellowships, during the period are ineligible for the CLA GRPP Fellowship. Students may hold external fellowships if the request is approved by their department's CLA GRPP selection committee. Students may not register for courses, except during May term, while they hold a CLA GRPP Fellowship.</p>

<p>Please note that the kind of non-competition-based fellowships we give to you (e.g., Hubbard, Kramer, etc.) are not considered University of Minnesota or Department fellowships mentioned above. </p>
