WOW... that is the first thing that comes to my mind after i read this. i can't believe that people actually are paying so much money for this GAME.. it doesn't make any sence to me.. i think someone spent $100,000 in real US dollars... i can thing of REAL things that i can buy for that much money. One thing that is kinda cool about this is that you can make money from other people who like to spend money on this. One man is making about $1,900 a week from other players(RESIDENTS).. I just don't know... i could never see my self spending that much money on a computer game. I mean the game looks like if would be cool to try out and but i don't know how far i would go.. I wonder if some of the people who play this game are just playin because they don't enjoy their life enough and want to start over to become some one else on thier free time... With the possiblity of being able to make money from this maybe helps people to continue to play.. it is really so real life... once you create a character you can do what ever it is that you can ever thing of... The people can have adult relations with ofher people as longs the other adult consents, but i think if you do things that would be illeagle in real life is totally ok on this game... i don't really thing that is very appropriate... i wonder how far this game will go and how popular it will become... i personally don't see my self tryin to do this but i could see people who love computer games like the sims to like to play this game... the man that makes the $1,900 is a stay at home father so he has time for the game but, so mabye others will start up companies online too... who knows i am curious as to how big this company grows in the next few years...

so i new there were tons of games on play stations and xbox's i also knew there were games like internet hearts and checkers and other games like that on the internet but i never knew that we could paly games like madden 2004 and other play station games. i think this new technology is awesome. you can play with games across the world.
the first consoles were very simple intended for older children.. but now the games are so realistic that most of the newer games are meant for young adults more so than older children even.. the technology is increasing so much from the simple nintendo to now the xbox and ps3 coming out soon... what a difference in technology and graphics ...

but now there is online gaming.. who is the targer market for online gaming?? jupiter reseachers reportatd that there is about 63 million US consumers played games online in the year 2001, see the things is with these games they were free... i think this article kinda says that online play isn't and wont be a huge revenue booster because people won't want to pay to play when they can just play on thier own console... but who really knows they did have over1.5 million active players pay $40 for an adaptor... i think that is a good start.. but still with all of the new systems that come out i think gamers would rather just play with thier buddies on thier hundreds of dollar consoles.. well that is what i would want to do anyways..

In the past two days we have watched a movie on how the personal computer PC all got started. this movie was quite interesting.. i never knew that is how Bill Gates started his company, in a garage. I would have to say that Bill is really lucky that that one man wasn't home and only his wife and she kicked him out. other wise i really don't think he would have been as sucsessful as he was... its kinda lucky like i said.. Still its really kinda cool how they didn't work like everyone else.. no set time some times they didn't shower they just worked till they finished what they were doin... they also didn't have normal desks and offices they had couches and soda. this movie kinda lets me know that anybody can start a business of thier own... i say this becuase Bill Gates probably never even thought that any of this would be happening to him before he started it he might have just had an idea... but the $50,000 turns in to billions of dollars like so easy.. i now i know its not that easy but he made it seem easy...
Back to the movie.. i wonder how the company, that Gates bought that patten from, feels about selling it for only $50,000 to later find out that it is worth billions of dollars now.. i know if that were me i would feel kind bumbed. Overall the nerds are pretty cool people and the movie was a good one i enjoyed it. i don't really have any questions that i can ask for this blog so i just wrote what i thought...

We talked about LUCK.. and after reading this article i think Microsoft is a really lucky company... First when IBM asked them to the operating system for its new PC. from there the company became more popular and even more popular when they went public with the company.. then when Microsoft had Word and Excel come out it was a big hit because they bundled thier products.. They reason Lotus and Word Perfect failed was because they tired to match Microsoft instead of trying to figure out a new bussiness model of thier own...

The issue I think in this article is when Microsoft and Yahoo! had the ability to send messages to users on the AOL network. AOL did not like the idea of them having access to their IM so they blocked their access to their network by changing their protocols that are used to communicate with AOL’s servers. Microsoft then modified there software so AOL became accessible to MSN users again. AOL later put up another block and Microsoft again passed that block, this happened a few times. Eventually Microsoft gave up because the “techniques AOL used to lock its system could pose a security threat to both companies customers (The Long Battle). Then Trillion came in and they were compatible with MSN, Yahoo!, and ICQ. They were also compatible with AOL. So AOL had to block Trillion, but unlike Microsoft, Trillion did not back down. They welcomed Trillions service for a while and did not block the servers. So now only some times will AOL and Trillion work with each other.
The stakeholders of this case I think are the people who are using the instant messenger services. The most popular age group would be teenagers and young adults. Other users would be people at the work place. Not every user has the same IM. Some people who talk to other people from both AOL and MSN do not always know if they are able talk to someone from AOL, it would switch all of the time because MSN hacks in to AOL so they can talk to each other. The other stakeholders could be the people who are in charge of the companies who try and block and unblock the other IM’s.
I think that this issue exists because friends have different types of instant messenger services and they wanted to be able to talk to everyone without having to download the other services. Another reason this issue exists is because other users what to be able to talk to their friends on AOL from their different form of IM. AOL does not want anybody else to use their IM except AOL users. AOL is the most used IM service so they see it as why should they have to share. If a user wants to talk to someone on AOL then AOL wants they to download and use it from them and not the others. They are leading service they want to keep it that way. So if more people just decide to use AOL and not use the other forms of IM then the value of IM to those users becomes lower. Each company was just trying to make their companies better and easy for their customers to keep interest for their users.
Why is that? well because people like the fact that they could get music from the internet and burn it on to a cd and or a mp3 player and bring their music they like with them. It is nice to have all of your favorite songs on single cds and when you work out you can have the songs you want to listen to right there.. but anyway... many other downloads came out sites like KaZaA, Morpheus, and LimeWare. there are so many more these are just a few sites.. this is something that the public wants and they don't want to pay for it when it can be downloaded for free... as of right now peer-to-peer can not be stopped and people want the music they are gunna get the music..

Question: Why is bundling such a great idea? Will it become more popular?

Well according to this paper bundling is refered to as the practice of selling two or more distinct goods together for a single price. I think an example of this would be i bought my notebook computer for so much and with the computer the company gave me a free printer. But here is the thing the printer wasn't a good one it was just a standard printer that would be needed for simply tasks such as prining off a school paper. so i think the target market was aimed towards students attending school and they offered the "FREE" printer as a bundle to make it sound like i was getting a better deal. So in this instance bundeling is a good idea its a selling tactic to make the product sound better than just getting the computer. I don't know if many companies can just give free things away when sellin products but the example in the paper about the word processor and the spreadsheet is also a good idea because the seller will end up making more a a profit then if he sells them seperately. So maybe this really isn' that new of a trend its one that has been around for awhile and it working very well.

Question: Would Rhapsody someday end due to the other companies getting in to the online music world??

Well.. i would say that someday it could be possible if all computer companies comes out with thier own version on a music downloading place.. for example Apple computers have a version of their own called iTunes. Apple had a "special" if you buy their computer you would get a FREE iPod that means iTunes would come with the computer as well.. So what happens if other computer companies like Dell or HP come out with something like this Rhapsody could take a complete turn around and not be as successful...They say said in the article would do things like try and get ppl do buy subscriptions rather than individual songs.. but i think the most important thing is that there is so much free music out there that it must be hard to stop everyone from sharing and using p2p.. i think things that would keep the on top is to advertise i haven't even heard of this company i guess until now i hear of iPods and iTunes all of the time on the tv and see billboards or what not all of advertising their product.. Roxio tho only made an increase of $1.5 million dollar increase after increasing their marketing spending to $6 million... back to the question i am not sure if they will fall or be even more successful maybe they will work with computer companies to have Rhapsody products on your computer when you buy it.. idk..

my thoughts and questions

Well i would like to start off saying that this was very informative to me. i am some one who knows very little about this stuff so i was intrested in this reading.. i believe the article is about the changes in the music industry and how it will effect the market structure. Alot of the information presented went right over my head. Will we be Learning all of this stuff??
Question: So if the artist can do-it-themselves then where does that leave the record labels??
Oh they have to compete with the record labels and producers themselves.?. then the artist wouldn't need them and therefore make more money for themselves. you state that the record labels would lose the money if this was to happen. thats too bad. well they could do the online things for the artist that way the record labels will still have a job..and they would be able to service the newer artists like it says in the discussion part of the paper..
Question: What about an ordinary person who like to make music of their own? can they create a song or songs and do this too? or is it just for already know artists?
What are you can be done with P2P we all know its happening? can it be stopped?

soome of these questions i just don't know how to answer.. sorry maybe you can help??

Question: Someday will these products work together? Such as an iPod with Windows Media Audio?

To be honest i don't know why they can't work with each other in the first place but i think the author would say that some day the two would have to be compatible with each other so a "downfall" doesn't occur. Because according to this article Apple made it so there components will work with only other Apple components, they were warned by other companies not to that this would be bad. so think some time in the near future all of these products witll work together or a new line of product will come out. I'm not sure
