CLA: SJMC Murphy Weekly

The Association of Electronic Journalists has multiple scholarships available for hard-working undergraduate students who have a focus in electronic journalism. All scholarships are open to enrolled students (freshmen excluded) who are pursuing careers in radio and television news. Candidates must be full-time college students with at least one full year of college remaining, and they must be in good standing. Homecoming Student Scholar & Public Engagement Showcase
Student Scholar Showcase 2009

Showcase your work in the Student Scholar Showcase, an exhibition of undergraduate and graduate student research, art, and design. This event, held in TCF Bank Stadium in concert with Public Engagement Day, will attract an audience of local colleges, high schools, corporations, and non-profits, and will serve the dual purposes of showcasing student work and providing recruitment opportunities. University faculty and staff, as well as families of presenters, also will be invited to attend this event. 2008-2009 University graduates are encouraged to participate as well.

KARE 11 is seeking an Online Assignment Editor. This multi-media position is responsible for communicating with and connecting all news content providers (staff, networks, community) and streamlining that content quickly and efficiently to various producers and media platforms (TV, online, mobile, etc.) immediately. This position will require the successful candidate to be able to handle a variety of tasks at the same time. Multiple skill requirements include: computer technology and social networking, good telephone communication, monitoring scanners, managing feeds from eng/satellite/ftp/skype, etc., court checks, story follows and investigative research. Flexible schedule for evening and weekend hours a must. Education requirements: four year degree. Prefer journalism experience. Experience shooting video, newscast producing and/or reporting also a plus.

Creative Services Producer
The #1 station in town is ready to hire a producer who can do it all. We are a full-service creative services department producing cool and clever advertising for station clients and multiple brands, including KARE 11 News, Metromix.com and MomsLikeMe.com. We are looking for a strong writer with clever ideas. But that's not all. Are you a rock star on After Effects and eat AVID for breakfast?! Ideal candidates must have the technical prowess to conquer any platform and demonstrate the ability to think outside a traditional news station. At least 4 years experience in promotion or advertising required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum of three years experience writing, producing, and editing station and client
commercials at a local television station or ad agency.

- Must be able to demonstrate excellent writing skills.

- Proven track record in the development of station news and image promotion.

- Highly creative, with the ability to channel energy to meet tight deadlines effectively.

- Excellent computer skills.

- Ability to collaborate and cooperate with a diverse group of individuals; good communication
skills.

- Skilled at evaluating new design techniques and systems as well as equipment and software.

- Experienced and comfortable working with broadcast equipment and software; DVCam
camera, Avid non linear editing system, After Effects, Final Cut Pro.

- Must be well skilled in all aspects of non-linear editing and design.

- College degree in Mass Communications or related field preferred.

- Must exhibit excellent communication and organization skills.

Multimedia Journalist
Description/Requirements:
This position requires both reporting and photojournalism skills.

· Applicants should have good news judgment, strong writing skills, photography experience and non-linear editing training.

· Strong storyteller who can produce stories live on-air and on-line.

· Enterprises and reports general news and feature stories.

· Interviews appropriate people to cover general news stories.

· Reports, shoots, write scripts, and edits stories.

· Contributes story ideas and attends story conferences.

· Develops stories assigned by the assignment desk.

Special Requirements:

· Minimum 2-5 years reporting/photojournalism experience.

· Journalist and/or Mass Communication degree preferred.
