Star Tribune news designer apprentice position

The Star Tribune is seeking a promising, talented visual journalist to work as an apprentice news designer for up to two years. The designer will produce powerful news pages -- including covers -- under the direction of more senior designers. This person will plan and produce dynamic, compelling, content-driven pages in collaboration with other visual journalists, writers and editors. This person must excel at seeing new, accessible ways to present information and tell stories to our diverse community. He or she must be quick, creative and flexible enough to design with flair one minute and with serious journalistic purpose the next.

This designer must be adept at engaging readers in a wide range of stories. He or she will be able to work under daily deadline pressure and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Candidates must show mastery of InDesign and fluency in Photoshop. The skill to produce basic informational graphics is a plus for this two-year position.

Send letter and resume to Duchesne Drew, Managing Editor for Operations/Recruitment, Star Tribune, 425 Portland Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55488.

The deadline is Dec. 1.
