Recent grad turns passion for food into career

By Hillary Kline
While most typical college students live off of Ramen noodles and mac-and-cheese alone, that wasn't the case for recent grad Melinda Feucht (B.A. '09). From the classroom to the kitchen, Feucht is proving that the recipe for success is as simple as turning your passion into a career.

On Jan. 30, 2010, Alan Bjerga (M.A. '98) was formally inaugurated as the 103rd president of the National Press Club at a gala held in his honor. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., swore in Bjerga, a fellow Minnesotan.

Medical Weblog Awards honor Prof. Gary Schwitzer

Associate professor Gary Schwitzer's HealthNewsReview blog has been named a finalist in the sixth annual Medical Weblog Awards, sponsored by Epocrates.

Now almost four years old, with nearly 900 stories reviewed, HealthNewsReview.org has become a definitive source for the evaluation of claims about new health care treatments, tests, products and procedures. The Seattle Times said of the blog, "Schwitzer is one of the country's leading authorities on what's right and wrong about health coverage in the media." William Heisel of the Los Angeles Times wrote, "Gary Schwitzer is the professor that health reporters fear. With the creation of HealthNewsReview.org, he has brought back nightmares of having your work marked up in red and posted on a corkboard for everyone to see." Last fall, his blog was named one of 50 Excellent Public Health Blogs by RNCentral.com.

The polls are open! Vote for HealthNewsReview for Best Medical Weblog Voting closes at midnight (EST), Feb. 14.
