On May 20 & 21, the Minnesota Journalism Center, the School of Journalism & Mass Communication and the Minnesota Chapter of AIGA hosted the first "See Change: The Power of Visual Communication" conference, an annual gathering for creative professionals to share their thoughts and inspiration about visual communication, on the University of Minnesota campus. Conference attendees enjoyed an opening night reception, dinner and entertaining presentation at the McNamara Alumni Center featuring Nigel Holmes, owner of Explanation Graphics. The following day, nine local and national luminaries shared their insights on innovative projects, work philosophies and survival techniques for visual communicators during a daylong session at the Coffman Memorial Union. The conference concluded with a reception held at the Weisman Art Museum.

SJMC alums named to SPJ's "Journalists to Follow" list

SJMC alums Emma Carew (B.A. '09) and Vadim Lavrusik (B.A. '09) have been named "Journalists to Follow" by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). SPJ's Quill magazine profiled 20 of the industry's best thinkers, innovators and practitioners in their May/June 2010 issue.
