Mobile applications have revolutionized the way content is packaged and presented in recent years. As communication evolves, the University of Minnesota -- and SJMC in particular -- is working to better prepare students for digital careers upon gradation. Through two new course offerings, students are taking advantage of the opportunity to work with evolving technology.
The Frank Premack Public Affairs Journalism Awards Program has been suspended after consultation with the Premack Board and the Minnesota Journalism Center Advisory Board. Submissions will not be accepted for reporting done in 2012.
In fall semester 2012, two SJMC students -- along with students from other University of Minnesota departments -- worked in the newsroom of Minnesota Public Radio News to create an in-depth look at education in Minnesota.
In fall 2012, students enrolled in JOUR 5174: Magazine Editing and Production created FIN, a magazine about the end of the world. Meaning "the end" in French, the magazine's inspiration came from the Mayan prediction that the world will end on December 21, 2012.
SJMC senior Jeff Hargarten has been accepted to News21, a prestigious news training program in which students from around the country create a news project that is picked up by national outlets, such as NBC.com or The Washington Post.
SJMC junior Megan Ryan has been selected as a 2013 Dow Jones News Fund Intern. In summer 2013, she will head to the The Journal News in White Plains, NY as a sports copy editor.
