SJMC Alumnus Creates Super Bowl Ad

Luke Behrends, a 2004 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Journalism & Mass Communication, co-wrote Tide's "Miracle Stain" commercial that aired during the 2013 Super Bowl. The commercial was ranked No. 2 by USA Today's Ad Meter, just barely edged out by a Budweiser commercial featuring a Clydesdale horse longing for his owner.

The commercial beings with a man whose salsa stain resembles San Fransisco 49ers football legend Joe Montana. The man becomes an instant celebrity and fans make the pilgrimage to see the stain until his wife, a Baltimore Ravens fan, washes the jersey.

"It's all pretty relatable, it's not too wacky and it's just good clean fun," Behrends told his hometown newspaper the Albert Lea Tribune.

Behrends, who is a copywriter for Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency in New York City, co-wrote the commercial with Keiji Ando, his advertising partner whom he previously worked with.
