Students Create Campaign for Minnesota Timberwolves

A campaign for the Minnesota Timberwolves created in the fall 2012 Strategic Communication Case Analysis class at the School of Journalism & Mass Communication is now making its way to television.

Reddit co-founder visits University of Minnesota

On Thursday, October 24, 2013, more than 300 people gathered at the Bell Museum of Natural History on the University of Minnesota campus to hear Alexis Ohanian speak. Ohanian, who co-founded the news aggregate site reddit, is traveling to 75 universities across the country as part of his book tour for "Without Their Permission: How the 21st Century Will Be Made, Not Managed."

Leading First Amendment lawyer James C. Goodale believes President Obama should take a lesson from a page in American history--the Pentagon Papers case--and rethink his approach to conflicts between national security and the First Amendment. Goodale, the author of the new book Fighting for the Press: The Inside Story of the Pentagon Papers and Other Battles, delivered the 28th Annual Silha Lecture on Oct. 16, 2013 at the University of Minnesota's Cowles Auditorium.

University of Minnesota hosts high school journalism students

More than 600 Minnesota high school journalism students filled Coffman Memorial Union on the University of Minnesota East Bank campus on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 as part of the Minnesota High School Press Association's annual convention.

UMN SJMC Announces Formation of Magazine Club

In fall 2013, the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) created its first-ever Magazine Club.

In fall 2013, the Alliance for Women in Media's Minnesota chapter launched a student-led affiliate. The group aims to expand opportunities for women students to interact with experienced leaders in the media industry.
