More than 600 Minnesota high school journalism students filled Coffman Memorial Union on the University of Minnesota East Bank campus on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 as part of the Minnesota High School Press Association's annual convention.
Students participating in their high school newspaper or yearbook are invited to attend the event, which includes sessions on writing, reporting, creativity, business management and more.
The convention featured keynote speaker Boyd Huppert of KARE 11. Huppert spoke about the importance of storytelling and sources.
The University of Minnesota School of Journalism & Mass Communication (SJMC) sponsored the keynote as well as participated in the vendor fair. "It's really fun to talk to high school students who are so passionate about journalism and excited about their publications," said SJMC communications manager Sarah Howard, who worked the event along with SJMC events manager Sue Couling.
Also at the convention, winners of the 2013 MHSPA Best of Show Awards were announced.
