SJMC Students Win National SPJ Awards with Minnesota Daily

On May 6, 2014, the Society of Professional Journalists announced its annual Mark of Excellence (MOE) Awards, which honors the best collegiate journalism from the previous year. A number of SJMC students were honored with MOE awards through their work with the Minnesota Daily.

The following stories were national winners:

  • "How bad is it? Perspectives on campus crime" by SJMC students Kia Farhang and Bryna Godar, along with Nick Studenski.

  • "Activists hang out to protest 3M" by Ichigo Takikawa. Read here.

  • The following stories were named national finalists:

    • "Outing sexual violence disparities" by Branden Largent. Read here.

    • General Photography: "Same-sex marriage bills to be introduced" by Bridget Bennett. See here.

    In addition to individual stories, the Minnesota Daily also was the national winner for Best Affiliated website.
