This is the Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower. It is the third tallest tower in the world. From there you have the bird's eye view of the world's largest building. In the tower you first go up an elevator that went 7 meters/second. Then when you get off the elevator you can walk around and look at all of the buildings but then you can go to a floor lower where you can walk outside and walk on a glass floor. It was so scary, I thought I was going to fall and I couldn't even walk on it. It didn't look safe at all, especially when you have people jumping on it. I really don't like heights so I didn't like going out there. I really enjoyed looking at the top of the buildings because it's not every day that you get to see them from that view. Even though I don't like heights it was definitely worth it. It's not every day you get to see the world's tallest building especially from a view like that.
The Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower at night time was taken from our boat tour. The boat tour was really beautiful because you don't get to see all of the buildings and boats with lights like that. It was really beautiful how the lights hit the water. It was very peaceful and relaxing after a long day. It's definitely not something you get to see in Crookston or anywhere near there. I would love to do it again someday.

Today (May 30th) we left the hotel and headed for the Shanghai Museum. It had a total of four floors and had a variety of items from the different dynasties. They had galleries on Ancient Chinese Bronze, Ancient Chinese Sculpture, Ancient Chinese Ceramics, Zande Lou Ceramics, Chinese Painting, Chinese Calligraphy, Liangtuxuan, Chinese Seal, Chinese Minority Nationalities, Ancient Chinese Jade, Chinese Coin, Ancient Central Asian Coins on the Silk Road and Chinese Ming and Qing Furniture. If you got the audio guided tour you would need longer than three hours to go through everything, but if you did not have the guided tour you would not need that long. It was very neat to see all of the different styles of items that China has gone through over their long history.

We went to Nanjing Road. It is a shopper’s paradise if they are looking for high quality items or dirt cheap items. It is a very popular place to go shopping if you are a foreigner and I was told that it attracts twenty thousand people a day. You could find almost anything that you wanted there with a little looking. If you go off the main area for a little while you come to the underground area where you can bargain to your heart’s content. The bargaining place was not as big as the ones we went to before but they had some similar items but they also had new items.

We went to an Acrobatic show at the New Shanghai Circus. If you have not been to a circus recently it is a very good show and I was very impressed with the things that they did. If you have been to one recently than some of the things they do will seem to be the same but for the most part they do something a little extra to make it more special.

In China I have come to find out that most people do their own laundry and let them air-dry at their apartments. Most people in the cities live in apartments and they are very expensive. We have also experienced washing our own clothing.

I have also found out that many people have house pets. They have ducks, chickens, and dogs as pets.

We went to visit the grocery store and it was very different from what I have experienced before. In the store the service is great almost everyone has a store clerk to help them and the stores are very busy. People are everywhere looking at everything. In the stores there are so many people that you bump into everyone going thru the store.

Most people don’t have a drink with their meals in Hangzhou. If they do they are very small servings. About ½ measuring cup.

We went to Ling Yin Temple and we got to see the “crazy monk”. The “crazy monk” is a monk that was a drunk but very kind to the people. We also got to see a lot of other monks. The caves at the temple were full of carvings and of Monks and Buda’s.

We went to the West Lake Impression and it was a love story on the water at the Broken Bridge. The show was very beautiful and the lights would change as the seasons of the story progress, and there was music to illustrate the varied emotions of the love story.

Hangzhou is a famous tourist spot in China. One of the reasons it is famous is because of West Lake. If I have to pick my favorite part of the Hangzhou trip instead of the colleges we visited I would say it was West Lake. West Lake is very beautiful with the vegetation, water and a lot of culture. Yet my favorite thing is the people around West Lake. There are people from all around the world visiting West Lake everyday and it is full of different cultures.
When we first arrived to Hangzhou we went to West Lake for a tour and a boat ride on the lake. It was very beautiful and really fun to ride around to the different islands and hear about the history of West Lake from our guide.
