Middle School Education Topics

It is common for children in this age group to begin to call each other names like "gay," "faggot," "lezzy" and "dyke." Children recognize and are sensitive to attacks on people who are like members in their families and communities. Children often feel personally insulted when this name-calling occurs even if it was not directed at them or their family. Parents can work with school systems to sensitize them to the impact of insulting language on their children.

It's interesting to see things like this posted in what feels like public. Although I have no problem as a heterosexual female seeing homosexuals kiss or display their affection for each other, it still does not feel as normal as seeing heterosexuals kiss. I wish the country were conditioned in such a way that seeing homosexuals together was as natural as heterosexuals. They are real people with real emotions. I don't feel as though I should have any reluctance to accept these situations, however the environment I was brought up in does not allow me to feel neutrally about these things. I only hope that when (if) I raise children that I will do so that they will feel comfortable seeing/being/or experiencing homosexuals. I hope that I will be mature enough in this sense to accept all and everything that the world has to bring in regards to homosexual expression.
