Possible motive in nursing home rampage revealed
Police are investigating whether the man who killed eight people in a Carthage, N.C., nursing home went on his rampage because his estranged wife worked there, according to ABC News.
45-year-old Robert Stewart walked into the nursing home early Sunday morning with multiple guns and went from room to room shooting seven residents and one employee.
Stewart was eventually stopped with one shot to the chest from 25-year-old Police Officer Justin Garner, according to the Associated Press.
"He acted nothing short of a heroic day today," Moore County District Attorney Maureen Kruger said Sunday, according to ABC News.
It is unknown whether Stewart's estranged wife was at the nursing home at the time of the shootings or not.
Stewart faces eight counts of first degree murder and a charge of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, Kruger said. (ABC News)
