9/11 mastermind waterboarded 183 times

The CIA waterboarded 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed 183 times, and another al Qaeda suspect 83 times, reported The New York Times, according to Reuters.

Abu Zubaydah, the first prisoner questioned in the CIA's overseas detention program, was waterboarded 83 times, according to a 2005 Justice Department memo.

This new information comes after a CIA official reported that Zubaydah was subjected to only 35 seconds of the technique before he talked.

President Obama plans to visit the CIA Monday to make public remarks to CIA employees, reported AFP.

The visit comes a week after Obama granted immunity to CIA interrogators involved in the interrogations that utilized the Bush era techniques.

Other techniques that Obama has prohibited (but Bush supported) include facial slapping and the use of insects. (AFP)
