Overheard at Great Clips

Customer: Thanks for the haircut! Now I don't look like Quasimodo.

Stylist: What video game is that from?

Customer: No. Not a video game. You know, the Hunchback of Notre Dame. The Disney cartoon.

A small tear slowly trickled down my face.

I share your tear.

It's a sad day to imagine someone not understanding a Quasimodo reference - especially since Disney remade "The Hunchback" just ten years ago.

Not only that, but the customer had to use a Disney reference to get the analogy across to the stylist. And I still don't think she got it.

If he would have brought up Victor Hugo (a person he probably never considered in his explanation) I think she would have been even more confused.

Victor Hugo? I thought that George Lucas directed The Hunchback of Notre Dame...

Eh, if you want the kids to get a Victor Hugo reference, you've got to hit 'em where they live:

"Nice haircut! Now I don't look like young Cosette!"

Ah, one other quick comment - there's a brief interview on the City Pages site with Phil Krinkie where he concludes by quoting former NYC mayor Ed Koch:

"The voters have spoken, and now they must be punished."

Thought it would give you guys a chuckle.

Victor Hugo? I didn't know he was a golden domer!
