Gopher Football has been around a long time

From GopherSports.com:

125 YEARS OF GOPHER FOOTBALL

There’s little doubt that the University of Minnesota is one of the most historically significant programs in all of college football. The Golden Gophers are celebrating their 125th season of college football in 2008. The Golden Gophers enter the 2008 campaign with an all-time record of 627-450-44 (.579 winning percentage).

Minnesota has played the fourth-most seasons in the history of college football. Only Rutgers (138), Michigan (128) and Navy (127) have played more. In fact, by the end of 2008, only nine schools in the nation will have completed at least 120 seasons of college football. Only four schools -- including Minnesota -- will have played 125 years of intercollegiate football by the end of this season.

That is pretty cool, no?

AND they've already tied their win record from last season, so there's that.

And they last played in the Rose Bowl when JFK was president.

Very cool. It's almost too bad the new stadium couldn't be ready for this season to coincide with the 125th anniversary. I wonder if there will be any recognition of this at Homecoming?

And there doesn't seem to be any more urgency now to win the Big 10 conference Championship or to reach the Rose Bowl. Can't we start a petition or something to get a first rate coach in here to restart the program and get the Gophers back on the map?

Well, we're 2-0 now. Give the guy one more season. He was implementing an entirely new system with players recruited to play a power running game. It will get better, Brewster has proven he can recruit, and that he can market the program. Now, let's see if he can coach.

125 years?? Wow. It really makes you appreciate college football when you think how new the NFL really is. The atmosphere is so much better in college too, nothing like 100,000+ screaming fans to make it a Saturday to remember!

By the way, shouldn't there be some sort of celebration? 125 years is nothing to sneeze at.
