Police chase leaves man dead after fleeing from Austin homicide

A man suspected of a homicide in Austin Friday morning died after a 50-mile police chase near Waseca that involved several squad cars and speeds of over 130 miles per hour, authorities said.

The Oakdale man was killed around 4 a.m. on Hwy. 13 when the car rolled over and threw the driver to his death, said Star Tribune. State Police say the man was not wearing a seat belt.

"The chase included officers and deputies from the patrol, the Waseca and Austin police departments and the Freeborn, Mower and Waseca County sheriff's offices," said Star Tribune.

According to Austin Police, a resident witnessed a 2001 red Saab speeding away around 3 a.m. from a home in Austin with a dead body laying in the front yard.

State Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash near Waseca, while Austin Police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the homicide, reported WCCO.
