Sociology graduate student Xi Zhu just finalized contract negotiations with the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Health Management & Policy. Xi will defend his dissertation later this summer and plans to begin his appointment in the fall of 2011. Congratulations, Xi!

UMN sociology graduate student Elaine Hernandez has won the 2011 Louise Johnson Scholar award from the American Sociological Association (ASA). The award is one of the top student awards of the ASA Medical Sociology Section, and is based on academic merit and the quality of an accepted ASA paper related to medical sociology.
