NIH director outlines LGBT research priorities

National Institutes of Health Director Francis S. Collins released a study on Jan. 4 that was commissioned to investigate needed health strategies for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The free, downloadable report was a result of grant funded research based on recommendations from the Institute of Medicine calling for a LGBT research agenda using cross-cutting investigation of demographic data, social influences on the lives of these distinct populations, discovery of healthcare inequities, and assessment of transgender-specific health needs that aren't met within the present system.
