My dad...

had "asbestosis"?? and had the lower lobe of his right lung removed in the early 60's. He spent time in Nopeming because at first it was thought he had TB. He worked at Reserve Mining in the crusher at Silver Bay from '55 till his diganosis. After the operation he was transferred to maintenance and worked there till he retired in the mid '70's. I remember higher ups in Reserve coming over to the house at the time of my dad's illness. At the time it seemed nice that we got Gopher football tickets, but later became cynical that it was hush-up gifts. He did lead a productive life after retirement, but succumbed to a sudden heart attack in '93. Hope this may help.

Thanks very much for this information. I will pass it along to our investigators. This is helpful to us in our work and I thank you very much for sharing it. If we need to follow up, can we re-contact you? Thanks. JRF

Yes, John, feel free to contact me.
