Alcohol Awareness

Rhonda Jones-WebbBinge drinking, the act of drinking five or more alcoholic drinks in a row, has declined since the 1980s among our nation’s youth, according to a study funded by the National Institutes of Health.

That’s encouraging, says Rhonda Jones-Webb, an epidemiology professor at the University of Minnesota. Still, she says, alcohol use remains widespread.

World Health Day

Marguerite PappaioanouApril 9 is World Health Day, a time to commemorate the work of the World Health Organization, the health agency of the United Nations.

This year’s theme is international health security. According to Marguerite Pappaioanou, a University of Minnesota epidemiologist, says routine health issues, such as malnutrition, continue to be the major threats to global health.
