I love to bike and, for the most part, I am pretty impressed with the road bike trails around the Minneapolis area. I have always lived adjacent to the trails and therefore have used them to get to work in downtown Minneapolis and home to visit my family in Eden Prairie.
Currently, Phase I of the Greenway Trail—which runs through Minneapolis—is finished. You can catch it between Lake Calhoun and Lake of the lsles in Uptown and it runs parallel (just north of) Lake Street east all the way past 35W. If you travel east on this trail, you can also catch a trail near Hwy 55 and ride into downtown, just shy of the Metrodome, or to the University of Minnesota.
If you prefer to travel west to the suburbs, the Greenway Trail turns into the Southwest LRT Trail and goes from Minneapolis to Chaska via Hopkins, Eden Prairie and Chanhassen. Supposedly, there is talk that this may turn into a light rail line, but until then, I suggest you enjoy a leisurely bike ride that is pretty much a straight shot from Uptown to the suburbs.
For those of you who have never used the trails before, you may find the following websites useful:
