The Gaylord Anderson Lecture is the School of Public Health's premiere public lecture event featuring the world's leading public health figures. Dr. N.K. Ganguly, director general of the New Delhi-based Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), will deliver the lecture.
N.K. Ganguly is one of India’s leading medical authorities and has a distinguished career serving many of India’s medical and educational institutions. A prolific researcher, Dr. Ganguly has contributed significantly to the medical sciences, with more than 500 research papers and numerous books. His notable administrative career is complemented by his service to the academy. He served as professor of microbiology at the All Indian Institute of Public Health and Hygiene in Calcutta, professor of immunology at the G.B. Pant Medical College in New Delhi, and professor of microbiology at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh.
The ICMR, begun in 1911, is the primary body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research. The ICMR funds extramural research and provides resources for fellowships. The organization’s priorities span many areas of public health, including management of communicable diseases, fertility control, maternal and child health, environmental and occupational health, health care delivery, anc chronic disease prevention, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
