Seth Werner is going to send all the students in his marketing class
to the BusGov desk, and have us sign off on them having been here
and done some library research. They are undergraduates using only
Google, so the usual suspects on the the BusRef webpage should serve
them well.

I've created a http://del.ico.us/bgi account - right now solely for government information, but that can surely change as/when BusRef sees fit. The goal of the list is to have a spot for official government publications that may or may not be in the catalog, that were hard to find or are otherwise not readily found using standard tools like MNCAT or Google.
To minimize hassle and, hopefully, keep this list in the flow of reference questions, I've embedded the list in a GPL web page that is linked on the homepage. It's called "Spotlight Archive" and appears on the far right of the list of site sections (e.g. right after U.S. Census). I've already had cause to use it a couple of times to get back to a New Orleans flood base elevation guide.
If you find you'd like to add links to the account, let me know and I'll show you the ropes. It's pretty straightforward, but we might want to create separate directories for Business and GPL links... - Amy
Found a nice guide to patent searching from University of Central Florida - a little more text than I like, but plenty of screen shots. Added the link to http://courses.lib.umn.edu/page.phtml?page_id=1776
Also added a link to MPL's patents page with a short description of their collection and services.
I thought you should know that we need to be careful about directing our users to the computers on the GPL side. The computers in GPL are denying access to the Human Development Reports even if the user goes through MNCAT. The computers also will not allow them into Google to search for government publications. Certain searches can only be done on the Business side.

The Univesity OIT Office recently made changes to how laptops read IP addresses so that many library databases do not work. Infopoint has gotton questions and you may be getting them at the reference desk. Mary Gibney is aware of the problem and hopefully will be able to communicate with vendors about the solution.
Please let users know these online databases still work on campus computers and on home computers, and that we are working on the wireless problem.
