The set of books titled Analytical Profiles of Drug Substances (29 blue volumes) has been moved from the Reference Index shelf near the bathrooms, and is now shelved with the Reference books under the call number QV740 AA1 A55. Its title changed recently, and is now called Profiles of Drug Substances, Excipients, and Related Methodology. As the name implies, it's an important source of methods for identifying drugs and excipients using various laboratory techniques.
This title never really fit with the other indexes, and so should be happier (and more easily found by patrons) in its new home.
Any questions, please ask me or Del. Thanks, Kathy
Jason had his students assistants tell him that there have been problems printing PDF files from the "Green" computers. These computers are set to print to CCR-B which is a temporary printer - the old one failed. Unitl the new printer arrives or another solution is found, please suggest that people send their PDF print jobs to CCR-A.

A new webpage (http://www.biomed.lib.umn.edu/ref/iaidsc.html) has been created that lists all the International AIDS Conferences, and where abstracts presented at them can be found. This webpage is linked from both the Reference Quick Links page (aka the Reference Desk homepage) in the "Meetings and Events" section, and on the Meeting Abstracts page which is available via Health & Medicine in the News. This latter page (http://www.biomed.lib.umn.edu/hmed/list.html) is an alphabetic list of professional organizations and meetings, and where abstracts from those groups may be found.
Any questions, please ask Kathy or Lisa.
Below is a note from Dan regarding a problem with the Library's mail web server due to an over-grown log file. This has had an impact on users logging into Ovid for the first time - they would see an error message saying "Out of IDs for TC x500. This log file may also have affected sent e-mail and our web forms from Sunday, 7/18 to earlier today. Please note that lost e-mail cannot be recovered.

Hello,
It appears, from external phenomena that only came to light today,
that biomed10 (our main webserver) started having disk space issues on
its /var partition at approximately 1:00pm Sunday. This caused the
following problems:
1. Updates to Ovid's ID databases stopped. This caused 'out of IDs'
errors for first-time Ovid users (not a common commodity during the
summer). I am pursuing this problem with Ovid and expect to have it
fixed by EOD.
2. Outgoing mail loss. Any application that sends mail (such as
webmail forms, including document delivery and BIS research
requests) experienced mail loss during this period. Mails sent
during this period cannot be recovered.
The exact cause was a runaway log file, the 'ssl_engine_log', which
had grown to 1.3GB before it was caught. This log is unnecessary and
shouldn't have been enabled in the first place. I will turn off
writing to this file tonight.
I apologize for the interruption in service on these two fronts. I
have launched a short-term project to audit our webserver
configurations to make sure there aren't any other accidents waiting
to happen.
Regards,
Dan
The 2003 edition of Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is available online via the Libraries' electronic subscription. Bio-Med has not yet received the print/microfiche version of the 2003 edition in Reference yet, so if anyone asks for journal impact factors, refer them to the online JCR for the most current factors.
Thanks, Kathy
