Visitors from Walden University Summer Residency Program
Walden University Summer Residency Program will again be on campus this year from July 13 through 27. During this two weeks, approximately 1500 advanced degree students and numerous faculty may be using the Libraries.
While students are being directed to Wilson Library, other campus libraries may see increased use. The Wilson Reference desk will increase staffing during this two week period to accommodate increased need.
Walden students will each receive individual conference accounts for on campus internet access. This should provide access to the Libraries public workstations as well as the U of M wireless network, providing students with access to our databases. The Walden students are being asked to use their own computers when using library resources to limit the impact on access to workstations in Wilson Library.
Walden students will also receive a gopher gold type card to which value may be added for copying and printing services. These cards will only work when value is added using the Cash-to-Card machine in the library. This new system should alleviate copy and printing problems experienced last year.
Please let me know if you have questions about the Walden visit.

People may think there are more events in Wilson related to International Education Week, than actually are.
The events are listed at: http://www.international.umn.edu/news/ieweek/events.php
and this link is including during November on the Wilson What's New section, upper right corner of the Wilson home page.
Because the Wilson exhibit is the first "event" on the list, at least one patron was misled and thought all the events would be here in Wilson!
The one the patron asked about was sponsored by the School of Nursing and they did not list the event location on the link above, but rather only on their own page for their dept....

Colleagues,
The University of Minnesota Libraries are pleased to co-sponsor a visit by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, director of the Library of Alexandria and former vice president of the World Bank. Dr. Serageldin's visit is part of a two-day series of lectures and panel discussions on March 23 and 24, presented by the Freeman Forum and the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University.
Two of Dr. Serageldin's lectures may be of particular interest. At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, he will explore the role of technology and digital information in "The Digital Future: Producers and Consumers in the New Knowledge Economy." That evening, he will discuss the recreation of the Library of Alexandria--and its role as an international information resource--in "The Bibliotheca Alexandrina: Past, Present, and Future."
All of the lectures and events during Dr. Serageldin's visit are free, but space is very limited and pre-registration is required. For more information about all of the events in the program, and to register online, visit www.freemanforum.org.
