Old U Card machines vs. Valu Port machine

Grump of the day/week/season...

(1) Has anyone heard anything about if the now-defunct old U card machines are ever going to be, like, removed from the walls?

(2) Even if they are permanent parts of the landscape and will never be removed, who can we ask about getting a better sign on the first floor one? The sign now informs people in BIG LETTERS that the machine is no longer working, but only tells people about the machine in the basement that they should be using instead further down in smaller and much lighter typeface. I know I get people every couple of days who read the first part and not the second and come to the reference desk asking pathetically how they can put value on their cards if "the" machine no longer operates.

Copy Problems with Newly Issued U Cards

Newly Issued U Cards
You may encounter problems with patrons that have recently been issued a new UCard. The new smart cards do not have the magnetic strip that the Libraries have been using to add value to for printing and copying. The new debiting system that will accept these cards will be available in the Libraries after August 15, 2008. Until then, patrons may pick up a free Gopher Gold card from the Magrath or Walter Library Circulation desks or the Wilson Copy Service to add value to at our cash to card machines. Remind them to keep the values low on these cards because they will not work after August 15, 2008 in the Libraries and will need to be converted to the new smart card after that date.
