Saving at public PCs

A recent request in InfoPoint regarding using a USB flash drive resulted in the following response from Autosys, which I suspect we'll all find helpful. I'd also add that the USB port on the new Dells is in the front of the box, in a panel covered by the Dell logo door. /Scott

Sorry to hear about your frustration in using the USB flash drives on the libraries public computers. About 6 months ago we updated all of the public Dells from Windows NT to Windows 2000, and a large part of the reason for doing so was to provide USB access for you, the patron. However, as you've noticed, the machines are still locked down fairly tight, but to save a file to your USB drive you just need to click on the disk icon in the tools tray in the Internet Explorer window, or go to the File menu and select "Save as...". In either case the Save dialogue box will open and you should see your USB drive listed as drive G.
We also disabled access to the "My Computer" folder, and I'm wondering now why we left it on the desktop... I'll add it to our list of changes to consider for the next public computer image. Thanks for the feedback, and please let us know if you still can't access your USB drive from our public computers.
