"Bill Clinton's Plan for World Domination"

clinton050815_1_400.jpg

Very important update regarding this blog's inspiration here.

A snippet to whet your appetite:
"Five years after his presidency, Clinton still thinks like a world leader. In some ways, its more complicated: He thinks like the leader of the world. While theres no official means to be president of the planet, other than as U.N. secretary-generala prospect constantly floated by Clinton supporters, though its practically impossiblehe certainly seems to be trying hard to invent one. On September 15, the former president will be hosting the grandly titled Clinton Global Initiative, a conference timed to coincide with the World Summit at the U.N. The guest list features an impressive and eccentric mix of moguls, heads of state, and problem-solversfrom Sonia Gandhi to George Soros to Rupert Murdochwho, after three days of panel-going and furious rubber-chicken consumption, are expected to sign pledges to do something about bettering the world" (from "Bill Clinton's Plan for World Domination" by Jennifer Senior).

Special thanks to my better half for alerting me to this update.

Interesting development. Bill C. is always 3 steps ahead of me, but I still don't get his mass incarceration policies. He kept locking people up long after any political gain was exhausted, and many are still locked up today -- seems like piling on. Otherwise, I'm intrigued with the summit.

Absolutely, Chris. Bad policy. Truth be told, my affection for Bill has little to do with his policies or person and more to do with a grasping at my youthful idealism which seems to be escaping me the deeper I delve into life as a social scientist (or at least I like to think of myself as becoming one). That, and I'm ever so slightly bitter about the current administration...but I digress. Perhaps he can make something out of his post-presidency that he wasn't able to make of his presidency???

Yeah, I'm actually a pretty big fan (though I won't buy his new album). BC clearly possesses a formidable intellect and the people skills to get things done.

Yeah, I was watching CSPAN once (ok, so I've watched it more than once!) and saw him giving a lecture to some class at some ivy league school and I was totally rivited - more so than I was in many (most?) of my classes in college. He's ubersmart and he's smooth. I hope he does get something (constructive) done.
