My cat is fired
This morning we discovered hard evidence of a rodent presence in our kitchen. This is a profoundly disturbing revelation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a jump-up-on-the-chair kind of chick, but a mouse in my house is not acceptable. What I'm wondering is, what in the hell is my cat for? Albeit we did have her front claws removed, but c'mon! It's in her nature to catch mice. I would expect a little more evolutionary adaptation here. So, she's fired and in light of her poor performance I have sent the hubster out for traps. Yeesh.

Hilarious! So, your cat shows absolutely no interest in catching this mouse? Does she even know it is there?

Maybe the cat is on strike? A work stoppage?

Shane - The funny thing is, I think she does! Prior to finding the definitive evidence of said rodent this morning, I had noticed that the cat frequently sits in front of the cabinet in which the garbage can is housed (under the sink). Just sits and stares. Perhaps it's a lack of access? But if we leave the cabinet open then the dog will eat the trash!
Brad - if it is a strike, she had not even given us the slightest courtesy of warning or even attempting negotiations. What could she possibly want? More food (undoubtedly)? A cleaner litter box (likely)? More sunny spots to rest up from her naps? Sheesh!
