a. river floods around trees
b. consistently cold temperatures freeze ice
c. river recedes and temperatures remain below freezing
ergo: ice-sheets growing out of the middle of trees

very cool.

i can't 'see' what's going on here. the flatness of the ice sheet is a complete mystery to my eyes, and won't let me 'find' what i'm actually looking at.

....like inverted toes.
