Campus

The presentation of Campus was very interesting. It's amazing that we have all this information at our fingertips and do not utilize it to our advantage. If we took the time to make the most of what Campus has to offer, it would make not only a huge difference in our instruction but it would always make a difference in our relationship with our students. By having instant acess tp our studetns test scores, report cards and background information we can quickly assess students needs and help them to excell.

Online Learning

I’ve had a limited exposure to online learning. My roommate “attended an online course and enjoyed it. She never had to worry about transportation and was able to have “class at any time (day or night). While I can see how the concept of online classes could be appealing to some, yet the lack of routine and structure can be a bad idea for others. As a student, I need the interaction with the teacher to see and experience to truly understand what is being taught, this is something – from the information that was presented- that would be lacking in the online experience. Looking at Online learning from a teachers perspective, teaching an online course sounds like a good deal, once you have your curriculum set and organized.

Google Earth

In the past I have used Google Earth in the past but only to look for houses for my family,. This, I've learned, is not all that it canused for. Today's guess speaker got me to thinking of all the ways that this can be used in the classroom. Working with primary students it could be used as a visual to show them the concept of Country, state and city. Students can get a glimps at other parts of the world to see how living situations may be different of the same. Middle school students can follow the underground railroad, Christopher Columbus or the journey of Lewis and Clark. Giving children the chance to interact with geography and history make for a mor memorable learning experiences.

WOW!!!!!

Have you ever had one of those days where your mind draws a blank whenever you try to do something? That is exactly how I feel today. I get to class and cannot remember a thing, It took me the whole class period to focus on what I need to do and that makes for a very frustrating evening. It's time to crawl into bed and try again tomorrow.

Constructivism in the Classroom

While it would be great to integrate technology into the classroom using the constructive approach, many teachers have so many other requirements that technology falls very low on their list of things to when making lesson plans.
I have observed a teacher using a PDA in his record keeping and was amazed at how much more efficient he was as a result. Free or low-cost training should be accessible to teachers on the how we as teachers can use technology to provide our students with authentic learning experiences.

Powerpoint

found the powerpoint assignment to be more of a challenge than I thought it would be. While I knew a little about powerpoint, I did not think of it as an effective learning tool that could be used in the classroom, rather as a tool that are used at conferences. After reading about and working with powerpoint my mind quickly started to overflow with ideas on how to use what I've learned in the future as a literacy coach or even in the classroom. Using the features that I was introduced to during this assignment I will be able to create presentations that are more interesting and interactive. I'll also be able to help students create powerpoints that show true understanding of a concept.

Hypertext

Lately teachers have been called upon to intergrate technology into classroom instruction. After reading Nancy G. Peterson's article on her experiecne with hypertext, I immedelty began to think of all the ways that I could use it with my students. last week we talked in class about how to get students to pull information from the web and actually LEARN about the subject they are researching. Peterson gave a great example of how hypertext can be used to deconstruct a poem, students are engaged in their learning, and students build reading and writing skills along the way.

what is technology?

When I signed up for this class I thought that I would be able to walk away with new things to do on the computer. until we started on our concept web, it never occured to me all of the things that fall into to the technology catagory. Cameras, t.v.'s, camcorders, game boys.....
