Historically the Homecoming Parade has been a signature event during the week of Homecoming and the Homecoming Committee is proud that this tradition will continue during Homecoming 2009: The Ultimate Homecoming. As that tradition continues the Homecoming Committee is at the same time excited to implement new changes to the Homecoming Parade. What may be the most significant change is that the 2009 Homecoming Parade will be held the night of Friday, October 9th starting at 7pm.
As some sight visits were taken to observe Homecoming Parades at various Big Ten campuses a common trend was realized... all schools in the Big Ten that celebrate Homecoming with a parade have it on a Friday night. Research into past parades here at the University of Minnesota also showed that historically the U of M has also often had its Homecoming Parades on Friday night in an effort to expand Homecoming activities beyond game day. While helping better conform to the Big Ten, this change will actually bring back a long standing tradition here at the U.
After the parade concludes, participants and spectators will be directed into TCF Bank Stadium to partake in a pep fest featuring appearances by U of M coaching staff, players, administration as well as the coronation of the 2009 Homecoming King and Queen.
Hopefully you will all participate in what will be the Ultimate Homecoming Parade! Stay connected to the Homecoming website to get more updates about registration for the parade and more information about additional opportunities with Homecoming!
