A Familiar Face

Hello Minnesota! Homecoming Headquarters is excited to present our Campus-Wide Activities Intern, Alec Bronston. Alec is returning for his second year as a Homecoming Intern and we're excited to have him back! In addition to the Homecoming Committee, Alec is a co-chair for Spring Jam 2011, and has served as a 2010 Orientation Leader, a 2010 University Senator elect, and a 2009 Student Legislative Advocate for the Minnesota Student Association. 155925_1461556911187_1601370013_31069219_3351065_n.jpg

Alec is originally from Wisconsin, but his Minnesota pride runs deep. In addition to routing for the Gophers with his little sisters, he also is a Chicago sports fan. Alec has had the opportunity to travel around the world; he's backpacked through Europe, traveled all over Peru, and even caught an anaconda in Venezuela!

As for Campus-Wide Activities, Alec's responsibilities include planning the Homecoming Concert, Pep-Fest, Gopherfest and competitions such as the campus wide scavenger hunt. Alec has some new ideas he is excited to share with the University Alec.bmpand looks forward to continuing the great traditions surrounding Homecoming. Alec has a new team of Homecoming Committee Volunteers to help him as well to ensure 2011 is the best Homecoming yet!

Speaking of our volunteer committee...Homecoming Headquarters is also excited to announce our finalized Committee members. Be sure to check back in to hear about our new Committee members and to see how they're helping to bring you the best Homecoming possible!

Ready. Set. Recruit.

Over the past few weeks we have been busy planning and interviewing for our Homecoming 2011 Committee Volunteer Positions. Leading the recruitment efforts is our stellar Recruitment, Training & Development Intern, Ellen Rindahl. Ellen has plenty of experience with Homecoming; she has served as a committee member for the past two years and is excited to share her experience and knowledge with the new recruits.

IMG_2343_2.JPGIn addition to Homecoming, Ellen is also involved with Gophers After Dark and is finishing her senior year at the University with a degree in Recreation, Park, and Leisure Studies. Ellen's long list of accomplishments also includes mastering the formidable Wii Fit Hula Hoop game (though she admits that she hasn't quite accomplished hula hooping in real life).

IMG_1815_2.JPGThroughout the semester Ellen will be with working with the Homecoming Committee to help create the best team possible. In addition to helping with the interview and recruitment process, Ellen will also be leading the training and development for the committee. Ellen is thrilled to be working with so many talented individuals and is excited to be help plan the best Homecoming yet!

A Running Start

Hey Gophers! Homecoming Headquarters is happy to introduce you all to yet another one of our fabulous interns, Brenna Loufek, our Community Service and Public Engagement Intern. Brenna is currently a junior at the University of Minnesota studying Health & Wellness with a minor in Spanish. Brenna loves being at such a large school and the diversity at the U - and, she's used to crowds! Brenna comes from a large family and has 31 first cousins! You can usually find Brenna enjoying her favorite TV show; Modern Family, jamming to The Script or The Avett Brothers, or training with her labradoodle, Cosmo, for the half marathon she's running this summer!

As the Community Service and Public Engagement Intern, Brenna will be coordinating various projects from the neighboring campus community and the state of Minnesota for Homecoming's Thank U. Brenna will also be planning the Blood Drive, Stuff the Truck, and will be recruiting volunteers to help at all Homecoming Events throughout Homecoming Week. Brenna's Pic.jpgBrenna is also committed to community service outside of her Homecoming Internship; she volunteers at La Conexión, a non-profit Latino community center in Minneapolis. Brenna is excited to help make this Homecoming memorable for all students, staff, and alumni and will be working hard over the coming months to ensure Homecoming Headquarters outdoes itself!

Ready to Roll

Hello Minnesota! Once again we're back with another fantastic intern for you to learn a little about. Homecoming Headquarters is excited to introduce our new Competitions & Royalty Intern, Brett Johnston. brett1.jpg As a sophomore studying Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource & Industrial Relations Management, Brett is constantly on the move. As if three majors weren't enough, Brett is also a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the secretary for the Carlson School of Management (CSOM) Business Board, a member of the CSOM Business Week Committee, and an officer for Business Professionals of America. Phew! So how does Brett manage to balance all this? Maybe he picked up a few tips from watching gymnastics? After all, - Brett is an avid gymnastics watcher and in addition to learning the art of balance, he also happens to have mastered the one handed cartwheel.

167228_1570011211773_1280250063_31421150_2111587_n.jpgAs head of Competitons & Royalty, Brett will be working to organize judging and recruitment of royalty candidates as well as ensuring their involvement at various Homecoming events throughout the week including coronation at the Pep Fest. Brett will also be leading the traditional competitions this year which include planning the Flag Football Tournament, Lip Sync Contest and Cheer Competition. Brett is eager to begin planning and is already hard at work to bring Minnesota another great Homecoming.

Before Homecoming Headquarters signs off, we'd like to remind everyone that Homecoming Committee 2011 applications are available until February 9th. We look forward to finding a group of dedicated volunteers looking to share their Minnesota pride and make Homecoming 2011 the best yet.
