Want to Rule the School?

Forget about Prince William and Kate Middleton, Homecoming Headquarters has its eye out for a different royal pair! 2011 Homecoming Royalty applications are being accepted now until Monday, April 18th. If you're a dedicated, well-rounded and enthusiastic leader ready to share some Minnesota pride and spirit, take the time and apply for this golden opportunity! Members of the court will attend and participate throughout the week of Homecoming, including appearances at the lip sync competition, flag football competition, parade, and will have the chance to be on the field at TCF Stadium on October 22nd for the Homecoming game versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers! Additionally, the King and Queen will receive a $500 scholarship. Royalty positions are open to all students who have attended classes here at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, for the entire academic year, have at least 60 credits as of fall 2011 and are maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. Homecoming would like to encourage everyone to apply and will be accepting nominations for candidates as well. If you're ready to get the royal treatment, head over to http://homecoming.umn.edu/royalty/ for more details and the application handbook. We have ten crowns waiting for our royalty court... one of them could be yours!

Meet Our Rockin' New Recruits

Although there may be a few months until Homecoming, seventeen new Committee members have just joined us at Homecoming Headquarters and have already started their plans to bring Minnesota another fantastic week of Homecoming fun. After an entertaining committee retreat and a great first meeting, Homecoming Headquarters can't wait to see what these volunteers have up their sleeves!

Recruitment began in February and we had some of the best and brightest apply to be on the Homecoming Committee. Candidates went through a series of interviews, ranging from situational questions to a partner activity that required them to brush up on their lefts and rights. After a long day of group interviews, the interns were thrilled with all the amazing candidates that were eager to be a part of Homecoming and, after some deliberation, the final seventeen were selected and began working right away!

The committee will be meeting every other week and is thrilled to be a part of the largest campus-wide activity at the U, and is looking to continue the tradition of amazing Homecomings at the U of M.

Keeping "U" in the Know

Abby served as a volunteer committee member last year and has returned this year as the Marketing and Communications intern. Abby is currently a sophomore studying Finance and Risk Management. When Abby's not busy with school she enjoys volunteering at People Serving People, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family. Abby loves being outdoors and is excited for the warm weather to be here soon so she can enjoy her walks to class again.

With so many fantastic opportunities and events going on throughout the week, Abby will be working to promote each one so that everyone has the chance to get involved! Abby is especially excited to begin working with the new Homecoming Committee volunteers to start spreading the word, so keep an eye out for them at upcoming events!

Be sure to check back in next week and meet our new Committee Members and find out what they're doing to help make Homecoming 2011 the best yet!
