Getting the X-ray on Maholy-Nagy
The majority of László Moholy-Nagy's artwork does not inspire nor intrigue me. However, I can see the constructivist influences in his many of his pieces especially pieces such as Light Prop For An Electric Stage or Light-Space Module. I do appreciate how he is able to take ordinary objects and manipulate the shadows in order to create a rather striking image since shadows, I feel, have had a profound effect in being able to say something that otherwise cannot be so easily shown. Maholy-Nagy's photograms are also equally striking and the results of placing an object directly onto the surface of a photo-sensitive material and then exposing it to light is different. It give a very x-ray feeling and removes the intricacies of the object themselves and makes you focus on the outlines for the most part.
